This is ridiculous, you can't model a real town in Minecraft. The limitations are so great that you would do the real town little justic.

Knowing just how much detail and precision can go into Blockland, I would have rather seen Blockland being used for this project. But I know it's just not as popular, so in the meantime...I guess this is kinda cool.

Lets make a bunch of blockland related stuff and upload it

"BAWWW IT DOESN'T LOOK REALISTIC!!"

Edit: I don't think you realize how big Minecraft is compared to Blockland, why would someone use a tiny little game that almost nobody plays compared to the 4 7 Million purchases of Minecraft?

then lets:
make a bunch of blockland related stuff and upload it
They'll start to be intested and will hopefully move it to blockland instead

hey, it IS called block to block  :cookieMonster:

The design and the mods installed are what matters

One can create a good looking design with tekkit.

Also, I think that using this might grant the ability to have what is basically Google Earth, but with minecraft, making it the first scale earth that's been made.

Not sure if I read wrong, you wrote wrong, or just very stupid.

Uh, that's not what they're doing.

From the looks of it, areas that are going to be redesigned get reconstructed into a Minecraft map.
This is then edited by people from that area to match what they want.

It's not them building a Minecraft Earth, saying go build whatever you want, and we'll build it in real life.

I suppose the concept comes from a good place, but I don't see how you can get any sort of detail using Minecraft, how you can trust people, and I also don't get where the funds will come from to do reconstruct these places how the people living there want it.

I would agree that Blockland would make a better use for the modelling, since it'smuch more detailed and able to make better structures with it, since Minecraft is just using large chunky cubes, but really, to me, the whole idea sounds a bit silly.
That people are going to redesign these places in a way that is possible, and then it get made.

Also, if they choose poorer areas to change and all, how can they guarantee that all people in the area are going to have computers, let alone minecraft and internet to even access the project?

You can say that it worked in Sweden, but there is a big difference between Sweden and African Nations.

limitations too small
seems dumb imo

"its not as good cause its not popular!"
Seriously?

"its not as good cause its not popular!"
Seriously?
He never claimed Blockland wasn't good.

Just that it's no where near as popular as Minecraft, so why would anyone choose to use it for a project like this?
If wanted to do something new and interesting using another product, and you had 2 similar products both suitable for the task, then you're gonna go for the most popular one, because it has the biggest market. More people will see it and get involved.

Who added the comment on the PC Gamer website?

7 Million, actually.
