How can I make my server less boring, yet still have players?

Getting players is entirely irrelevant if you don't enjoy hosting it.

If you're hosting something fun, people will want to take part in that fun. You have players, and you're also having fun.
You don't have to be constrained to what you know works.

there is an idea.
host a HELP WANTED server and have people help you build.
you can make friends that way.
also, if you want help, I'm available and happy to help.

it seems like everything i host either is really boring for me and gets tons of players, or i think it's fun and it gets no players

i've tried hosting creeper servers, zombie servers(with my own builds), flood RPs, probably others i can't remember
i don't really like TDMs/DMs because i'm terrible at them ;-;
