I'm always a bit defensive about 3rd gen because I grew up with it, and personally liked it, but yeah 5th gen got weird.

3rd gen is meh. Had some unique ideas and I can respect them as a new concept.
I grew up with the 1st and 2nd gen with the card game.
The 5th gen is a shameless excuse to keep the franchise alive.
