Author Topic: Freejack Renewed - Practically a whole new game; For better or for worse?  (Read 538 times)

NOPE too lazy to find an HQ logo

So anyone remember Freejack?
Because it's finally out of beta (Apparently it was in beta) and there are a LOT of changes now. Here's what's important:
  • All previous player data has been wiped. If you used the pay-to-play currency, you get a 50% refund on 30 day items and full refund on permanent items.
  • Player creation now allows a little more customization; Your character only determines your stats and animations (And I guess the voice type). Other than that, you can change all details of your character.
  • On that note, there have been some changes to some small animations and there are also now talking animations because why not.
  • The camera is more dynamic and moves around in a rather cinematic fashion as you perform actions.
  • The art style has been completely redone. Rather than the JSRF cell-shaded style of the past, they decided to go for a more "modern gamey" look with full shading effects, while preserving the old style of the textures and the outlines. It's a totally different look that I frankly quite like.
  • When fall, rolls are now automatic. I've been instinctively mashing space while falling all day before realizing this.
  • SP now builds up constantly and gives you an item when full. As such, Item Mode races now more luck based than anything, relying mostly on who gets the best items when
  • There is no more HP.
  • Items can be pick up at some spots in little tubes. Think along the lines of the Mario Kart item system.
  • Maximum of 8 players in a race as compared to the previous of 6.
  • Players of Turtle and Gazelle rank can see the "Perfect Lines" which basically are just lines in front of an object to aim for when pressing space.
  • The new "Hell Mode" was recently introduced.
  • Numerous GUI changes.
  • Through some wizardry, the game's overall file size has been cut in half (From ~2gb-1.3gb).

Wanted to keep the OP as mostly info, but my own thoughts on this: I like it. Everything feels a lot smoother and prettier. Some changes are rather silly to me, such as the new item system and automatic rolls, but they're all tolerable and I think I can get used to them pretty quickly.

yay freejack!
the only bad thing about the game was how doing parkour ruined the running flow

wait

if anyone's curious what the new style actually looks like

Yeah I'll pass.
Now for a quick review.
I gave the game up after ONE round.
The controls are bulky and just plain loving handicapped,
You turn like your a loving truck, you back up like one too!
The level i played was incredibly noisy, and incredible hard to navigate, mostly because they send you in "U" turns every five seconds.

You can't really look around with the mouse meaning you are 50% blind.

If you do download it, expect large amounts of button smashing to Stay on walls, Roll and Climb pipes.
Besides that it's just pressing space climb over stuff.

It's funny because this is advertising it's self as a Parkour and Free running game, Free-running is freedom of movement, this game has nothing to do with that.

3/10

It's only 1.00gb, give it a go.
You may like it more then me.

i never remembered to list it in the changes but you back up like a normal person now
that's the only legitimate complaint in that list though so

not a fan of the art style. reading the OP I thought it would be .. not .. what that .. is.

The art looks... weird. It's like a weird clash between modern shading and hand drawn textures. It kind of reminds me of the weird specular lighting on the Iron Eyes maps in S4 League- It just doesn't really match at all. Still, the gameplay is really cool from what you showed me, so I think it'd be a decent compromise.

Stop linking me to your threads and giving me cool games, I used to live a productive life auugghhh

It looks like Jet Set Radio Future and Sonic Generations had love.

This statement is so ridiculously perfect that I'm going to frame it on my wall.
However, there is not nearly enough hair metal for this game to be that Sonic-y. I wouldn't be surprised if they added it in later on though...
