Not to steal your thunder but something similar to this was made (the LEGO Starwars Force Pike is slightly similar).  I still love the fact that it fires a projectile.  I smell tazers coming soon.

I'm horrible at creating particles, so I used some default ones from base/data/particles. I think I used Ring, and chunk.
