Author Topic: GarageGames to Release Torque3D as Open Source  (Read 2549 times)

Just curious, what IS the best open-source engine out there?

You can't sell your game without an agreement from them
is that all? it doesn't limit the physics or audio-mixing or any stupid stuff?

You need to get a licence from nvidia to publish your game with the physics. I believe it's free up to a certain point.

Torque is an out-dated engine in my opinion. Imagine Blockland on an engine such as Skyrim's.

Blockland's Torque is not the same as Torque3D

Regardless. There are way better engines out there.

I need this. I'm learning C++ c:
Yeeeaaah.
Totally gonna use this engine for my first game.
Don't.

So will Badspot update the engine to to this when released?
Doubt it.

Depends, if its open source and they making it fall under gnu then he won't be able to sell the game.
It's MIT. Which basically says "do whatever the hell with it as long as you give us credit".

My sides.
+1

Isn't CryEngine also not the best?
Are you trying to imply that T3D is good?
My sides.

Nope. Blockland doesn't use Torque 3D, it uses Torque 1.5 or 1.6, I believe.

Torque has never been good. The mere fact of that TorqueScript exists proves this.

So I paid $100 for torque 3D, and I can't even access all of its code?

????
If you bought it you have every piece of code which is the engine.

If you paid $100 when it was the binary version then you will have to use the open source option.

Don't.
If you insist-
*goes back to figuring out how to get models into CryEngine 3 with blender*

Not to mention how heavily modified off the main engine the game is at this point - I doubt it would be worth the effort to move over everything, even if being open source allows some people to improve what is there.

Sorry, I don't look at Badspot's every post.
