He is talking about suffocating crew members, though. It takes some time for a low health crew to suffocate, apparently.

He's right, it takes about three seconds. That's plenty of time to not realize your crew is dying because you're busy dealing with 9001 drones from the Flagship.

http://youtu.be/UOiqcdQxLko It's still rendering but it was like 6 or 7 seconds for the Air to reach 0% And about 20-30 seconds for the people to die of no air, There were different species on board.
