Author Topic: First Marching Band Comp of The Year!  (Read 2025 times)

Takes a lot of breath power to play, in addition to simply carrying it. And you stop a guy for a few seconds, you carry the horn for upwards of an hour. And I don't know the rules of football, but aren't there some positions that, um, don't block people?
I've talked to people who do both, and most say marching band is harder. I've never marched with a heavy instrument or played football, though.

Anyways out football player love the band and respect us as well.

They can also keep moving with six guys holding on to them. They're loving tanks.

ok just to start off you can't really try to make that point if you don't even know anything about football. no, there are not any positions where you don't block people. if you are a receiver, you block on run plays, if you are a kicker, you hit the guy returning or an offensive defender. if you are a running back, you basically are built to be hit and hit other people. hard. highschool linemen weigh 300 lbs, thats 300 lbs you have to try to knock down while those same 300 lbs are charging at you. everyone on my jv team can bench at elast 125 lbs, and that includes the scrawniest guys on the team. they could easily walk with 50 lbs on their back, and could probably run with it too.

im not saying tuba players are scrawny and weak, but i can assure you that walking with 50 lbs < football

This was supposed to be a topic about fun marching band stuff. If you want to fight like ninnies, PM each other.

Fair enough. My school's football team is quite bad, so that may have something to do with it.

That wasn't a fight at all. Pretty sure no insults were used. It was a debate.

but we were discussing marching band :(

also this

It's hard as forget to do a show.

Especially 2 nights in a row.
They're pretty damn close. I freaking love the sousaphone players i have because they're like awesome at what they do.

We love you too.

I sent him a PM saying more or less the exact same thing, lol.

ANYWAY, I did band through middle school, but the director was a control freak who was good at directing for the Naval band he was in, but terrible with a bunch of young (pre-)teens.

We love you too.
I pretty much just freaking love all the bands we meet. They're so nice.

It would be awesome to have a national comp to meet some of you guys but i don't think we'd ever do that.

Also, not saying carrying a tuba>football, but there is a lot in playing it.
First you have to have a whole lot of air inside you before you play or it wont sound good at all.
You have to do this while marching in a multi-layer outfit and trying to remember precise footsteps in every direction. Not to mention if you have to dance as well.
Whilst keeping your eyes on the director and moving backwards/diagonally/etc.

It's not hard once you get used to it, but I suppose nothing is.

@Vincent, yea ,that would be cool.

im not saying its not hard, but i mean taking down 5 full grown and fit adult males empty handed probably takes just as much skill as trying to make a very nice looking quilt if you get what im saying.
