I sit in my quarters, reading Ernest Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls". I finish the book and look up as an explosion booms throughout the surrounding area. I burst through my door and run for the hangar to locate the cause.

Right as I walk out of the room, happy as my roles are switched, a loud explosion rang my ears. "The forget?"

I was admiring my plane and then I heard a very loud BOOM! as if someone shot a gun next to my ear. In my reaction I run as fast as I can to see something go in a ball of fire and then another BOOM! I'm like "Oh forget, oh forget OH forget NO! That was Heon! Goddamnit why didn't Sky Eye tell him about bogeys?!" and then check every little detail of my plane to see if it isn't hurt. I hop in my plane as fast as possible and request immediate taxi to runway. I get permission and I keep my plane at a good steady 500ft in the air for any flak guns. No sooner had I spotted a flak gun my left engine started leaking oil. "OH forget!" I yell in the roosterpit. I cut off all electronics and and the fuel/oil supply. I request emergency landing and make a hard ass landing rattling me around in the roosterpit. I run as fast as I can away from the plane to make sure it dosen't blow up. I yell for a mechanic

"Ian! Get up already!"

... I guess even after all this I still can't shake off his memory.

The first thing I feel is my shoulder being gripped and shaken. Slowly, my senses come back to me and I remember who I am and where I'm at.

After seeing the newbie run around doing errands as reparations for the disrespect he showed to a superior, I decided it would be best head back to my barracks. I put away most of my belongings for the day, and without even changing out of my fatigues I fell onto my bed and slept like a log.

Judging by the clock I didn't even rest for an hour before being woken up. My attention turns to the person screaming at me. It takes me a few seconds before recognizing his face and registering the urgency of the situation. He's a pilot that's rooming just across the hallway.

... "What happened?" I'm still a little groggy and my voice is somewhat less than authoritative.

"There's been two explosions in the base! We lost a pilot in the first explosion when he took off! Come on, I'll fill you in as we go along!"

"Alright, I got it."

I immediately get up and prepare. Before I head out, I figure I should grab something to defend myself with. I'd rather not take the time to load up my XM8C, so I take the old P226 issued to me during my first days in the 'force. I holster the gun and bolt out of the doorway to try and find the others.

Those were satchel charges.

I stand up, the bruises having recovered, and the broken ribs having healed enough to fly.

"Hey! Hey hey! You guys know where a mechanic is? I got my left engine leaking oil and I need a fix!"

"Uh, yeah.. what's wrong?"

I run out of my Quarters. "THE forget."

I run out of my Quarters. "THE forget."
"Heon got blown the forget out of the sky and my engine is leaky because I got hit by a flak bullet. I think we got an enemy base near our airfield."

Vyachelsav emerges from his quarters and strides outside, going for his usual commisary to purchase groceries for the next week or so, when suddenly the sky flashes, and a ball of fire makes itself obvious, followed by a loud "boom" seconds later, "Damn..." he says.
