Most games spend 90% of the budget on graphics. Still, there are metric forgettons of amazing games still being made, even with great graphics.

I sometimes wish my childhood was during the retrogaming years where the mainstream games were games that people just tried to beat each other's highscores.
Nowadays there are so many games and they are all so complicated that I just lost track.

there have always been terrible games
the trait of improved graphics with worsened gameplay is mostly only demonstrated in games that make sequels and prequels and continuations and spinoffs just for the sake of making money
there are still games coming out with good aesthetic appeal and good gameplay (eg Quantum Conundrum)
