How is 'using any other engine for blockland unnecessary' if it could, in reality, make a game like this 10x better? Should he have made the switch earlier? Yes. Now? No. Though my statement still stands. |

there are so many things that other engines have that aren't necessary for blockland. so what! their features would make the game 10x more awesome, necessary or not. |

It was either kompressor or Badspot that explained why it would be a bad idea, at any point of development. I'm positive they made a couple other posts explaining it. Regardless, you don't need to have "massive amounts of knowledge on the Torque Engine" to know Blockland doesn't need to be ported to another engine. It wouldn't be worth the time, money and bug fixes. --- Quote from: heedicalking on October 01, 2012, 07:56:27 PM ---there are so many things that other engines have that aren't necessary for blockland. so what! their features would make the game 10x more awesome, necessary or not. --- End quote --- I completely agree with this. We might as well see if Badspot will port the game to the Source Engine, maybe we could get some cloth physics! |

I regard any other engine as "unnecessary" because blockland would not be the same with a different engine. When you say that it could make the game 10x better, that is a statement of opinion and not fact. The truth is that blockland would have turned out differently, and there's absolutely no guarantee that I would still like the game (insight: this is literally my favorite game of all time in its current state, I personally would not change anything about it aside from a few minor details) --- Quote from: elm on October 01, 2012, 07:52:34 PM ---Should he have made the switch earlier? Yes. Now? No. Though my statement still stands. --- End quote --- Arguably. I'm not aware of what other similar gaming engines existed in 2004, but any time or expense lost to a different engine (including loss from not being as familiar as with torque) would not allow for the current level of development that exists today |
