Both are compressed statically before being uploaded to the server (nothing on the fly). So server load is exactly the same, and they're exactly the same size on the server (actually, the gzip is about 120 bytes smaller, but that's not really significant), but I'm going to go out on a limb and claim that the gzip has a much better user experience.

I'm not talking about Kalphiter's service, just that Rub's isn't the "polished alternative" that he claims it to be.
