I used to write it with a dash.
Actually it was more like a tilde, but I stopped doing so like 2-3 years ago.
I don't remember why, might pick it up again.

pretty sure it was a military thing so that people wouldn't confuse 1's with 7's

same with the dash through the 0 so you don't confuse with o and the slash through the z so you don't confuse with s
