r8 is the worst.
For rank D, just do cheap leather, that'll get you 50%
Do part time job for Walter in Dunbarton every day; he'll give you 30 cheap leather. Make sure you check every channel for a cheap leather job cuz different channels give different jobs. The same thing can be done for common, fine, and finest leather when you get to those ranks, you just need to get the part time count up. For the fine and finest ranks (after r8) I just played another game, alt tabbed into mabi every day, and did the part time, then went back to other game
Smithing is a ton more work than weaving so have fun with that.
Do refining first if you haven't; you can rank up metallurgy with it too.
Anyways I got my HLB to 5step upgrade; 114 max dmg for a non ego bow (not including enchants) is hax
