2. you CAN GET GOOD UNITS BY PLAYING THE CAMPAIGN
3. you get units by playing any game ever

I don't know if its been suggested yet, but Warcraft 3 is really really good RTS

company of heroes is awesome
especially the mod for it, Blitzkrieg
it takes away the unit limit and adds in tons of new units, commander trees + perks, better AI, new maps, new abilities and SO MUCH MORE
