Author Topic: My Hard-drive is About to Fail  (Read 2053 times)

Any important software that is bundled with it comes on a separate disk. The rest of it is typically bloatware.
Drivers are available from the manufacturer's website as well, and Windows 7 includes plenty of generic drivers.

Not all laptops are sold like that, most laptops today hardly have any disks in the box. It's all on the hard-drive within a partition.

Seeing as I've a retail computer from 2011, the software (Microsoft Office 2010 and special drivers) appears to be on separate disks. Maybe I just got a high-quality computer and most manufacturers don't give two forgets, but I'd still install with the installation disk distributed with the computer

Most laptops don't get installation disks and most desktops don't get those either. You rarely get recovery discs anymore too. Nowadays it's all on the hard drive and you have to make recovery discs yourself.

How uber gay. Last I remember when a computer didn't come with an installation disk, we phoned Dell and one was sent out, free of charge. That of course was 2004 and things may be different now, so your method would probably be better than mine should the resource not be available.

I've found the recovery disc utility on my computer for burning.
But I need DVD's.
Might be able to use my room mate's though.

*edit*
Nope. Need some DVD's.

That's great news J_MASTER! Now you just need to buy some DVD-Rs and start burning the infomation onto them.

Yeah it's really sad nowadays, back then you would get those well needed discs straight in the box when you buy new computers. Now they don't even make them anymore. Hopefully some companies are still nice enough to send you discs if you really needed it though.

You best back up what you want to keep if the hard-drive suddenly dies.
Don't wanna lose anything.

We covered this. Thanks.

someone pull out the "no fun allowed" picture

My roomie was nice enough to let me use her 4 CD-R discs to save my data before my HD dies.
So I'll have my data, that makes me happy.

But I still need to find a way to get some DVD-Rs, I can't get to any stores to buy them.
