Author Topic: General Programming Megathread - New OP  (Read 28971 times)

Okay fine, I'll reveal something. If you're interested in string theory, especially the 5th dimension, you'll be interested in my game.

Good, I'm doing this to weed out personalities like that.
so you only want asskissers and not a general, common personality?

that's more like it.

I can't reveal to the common personality until I have something to show, yes.

My game is most like the procedural game "Infinity" which is currently in development.

Python is a disgusting language. Anyway, you've left out TONS of essential languages. Seriously, you need to overhaul the OP. Maybe list from high level to low level, that way you can still start with the slowest scripting language, Python.

Python hate aside, here's a fuller list in some sort of proper format:

Extremely High-Level Scripting Languages
  • Python
  • Ruby*
  • PHP*
  • JavaScript*
  • Go
  • Lua
  • Shell
  • Euphoria
  • Lava
  • Perl
  • Lisp

High-Level Programming Languages
  • Java
  • Rust*
  • C++*
  • C#
  • C*
  • Objective-C
  • Cobra
  • Lisp
  • Haskell
  • Go
  • Fortran
  • Visual Basic
  • COBOL
  • Eiffel
  • Pascal

Low-Level Programming Languages:
  • Assembly*
  • Machine Code

That's a more complete list, though it's obviously leaving out thousands of languages. Those are probably the most important ones. (My favorites are asterisked)

I've been hearing C# is better for game programming than C++, but I have yet to check it out.

C# only compiles on Windows and is only good for .NET programming. So, no. It isn't.

OP Post
gonna redesign with Slick's idea in mind.

Okay so this Reddit post is where I was narrowing down my ideas: http://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/12l8g8/dynamic_procedural_code/

This comment is where I have the most developed idea of how to structure it and now am trying to figure out ideas of what the data points should be:

Sorry I was being so secretive, I was just having fun. Now some help would be nice.
