SPORE: Why it turned to stuff (also apparently spore versions)

I love Spore but I have always been disappointed by how it turned out. I mean, it's a great game but it could have been amazingly better.

I never actually knew the story behind Spore.
Now that I do, I hope to loving god Chris Hecker isn't working on SimCity.

I would have loved to see Spore in the beta stages such as the 3d water stage.
