technic/tekkit uses loopholes in the laws about intellectual property to make itself legal
FTB is supported by the mod authors, and contains more mods. FTB is updated to 1.4.2 and has a better well-rounded launcher that includes many things.

don't the minecraft terms and conditions say you can't modify minecraft, but people do it anyway?
more mods = quality mods?
i'd rather stay on an earlier version if it means being able to use mods like redpower
the launcher is literally multiMC but with different graphics and a few other features
