Author Topic: HELP: Windows 98 CD that I need to make compatible with Windows 7 / XP  (Read 738 times)

I just got this old set on eBay, but I use Windows 7.

When I go to run the installer, this shows up:

When I run it in Windows Compatibility Mode, the installer launches but...

Is there any way out of this? I believe there are some Windows XP versions (that should work with Windows 7) but I don't really trust any of them.

Software made before XP stopped being supported by Vista and Win7 upon release, I believe.
Vista and Win7 only go as far as supporting Windows XP Service Packs.

but lemmings ran fine on windows 7 for me, and it was DOS.

I'm not really 100% sure.
That's just my guess.

In fact, I have problems running Homeworld 2 (2005) on 64x Win7, even with XP Service Packs set to run with it.

What versions does win8 support?

Compatibility mode?

Basically a built-in way to run older programs with Windows 7

Wait why does it say it doesn't support Win2k if the disc you have is for Win2k

P. sure they took XP support out of Win8 entirely. Maybe even Vista support.
In fact, Vista's "Upgrade" option that lets you keep all your stuff when upgrading to Win7 has been implemented into Win7 > Win8 upgrading, however, Vista cannot upgrade to Win8.

Win8 might include Vista Service Packs, but it does not include XP Service Packs (I'm pretty sure anyway, correct me if I'm wrong, as I have very little experience with Windows 8).
