Why is it blockland.us?

I've always wondered just out of curiosity why Badspot named the site "blockland.us" instead of ".com". I noticed how badspot's website ends in .us too so is it just a personal preference? Was .com already taken?
Which do you prefer, .com, .us, vote in the poll!

Lol really? Kinda strange, I barely know of any sites that end with .us
