my school makes us give our mac-addresses so that they can hax our laptops. never gave mine, can do anything i want.a lot of people actually get busted for stuff on their computer because they were stupid enough to give it to the school.
They don't hax it, they track packets going in and out of your devices. Each device's network interface has a specific MAC address that can't be changed, and this is how they identify which packet goes through what device.
Our school has a port-based whitelist, and some kind of domain blacklist (not sure about how that works, I've never had any trouble with it). It's only on TCP though, and it doesn't even filter what happens on the whitelisted ports (hint: SSH and various VPN services).Err, they can see the MAC in the logs anyway (although they can't link it to you unless you have a stupid computer nickname).
I was joking when I said they 'hax' it. Deeerrrrp. They can literally access your personal laptop's camera, activate it and look through it. People are getting busted almost everyday for stuff on their computers that are being monitored. Thankfully I decided not to give my address out. Lol.
our school blocked downloading, but not rightclick>save aslooool
Err, what? I think someone doesn't really understand how HTTP works.
