This mostly comes from playing CoD with my brother. Any match where we're winning he's all "yeah im pro lol these guys suck" but any time we get players in there that are better than us he goes into "WOW WTH these guys are too good my K/D is going down omg". YOUR K/D IS JUST A NUMBER. IT DOESN'T MATTER IN THE SLIGHTEST URRGGHHHHH

They're probably experiencing FPS lag, which is not in any way indicated by bars nor shown to other players at all.

Something a lot like this happened to me while playing Combat Arms a long time ago. Made me feel bad. :(
