Okay, seriously, it's better to have a girlfriend you can get along with, or one who who has the same interests as you, I should say. Someone who you can really just hang out/listen to music/play games/watch tv with. Sure, love is good, but a relationship shouldn't just be based around it, or it will be misery. Trust me. But if both girls are nice, that can be challenging. But just think about it, because you've known your friend longer than the other girl.

I had to choose before between a long-term friend and someone really nice, but I didn't really know him.

It can cause emotional attachment, and that's good, unless you don't like the person because they treat you badly, or vice-versa. So it's probably best to wait and see if you really like that person and they really like you before you do anything to emotionally attach yourself to that person. Getting used then having a broken heart and stuff like that is just awful.

She is very right though, love with someone you don't like is horrible.
In movies and tv shows one night stands and all that stuff is so glorified but in reality when you don't actually like the person you are with it just isn't an enjoyable thing, not to mention it will often cause you to feel even worse about them.
