My parents are cheap.
We've had a planned trip that is coming up soon for a while (that tbh they just told me about and im still skeptical about it) and when I asked my dad if i can get a birthday present he just said "but da trip!!!"
The closest thing I had to a birthday present is my dad driving me to a store a few weeks ago so I can buy my self with my own money a laser pointer.

Maybe the trip is something that actually costs a lot of money and all the little bit can help. I remember when my family planned a trip to Alaska, my mom was pretty strict about spending so much because she wanted as much money for the trip to be saved up.
