How do I make logos for server threads?

I just need to know what kind of software I have to use, because I'm thinking of using one for a server thread.

Gen. Hothauser:

You can either make it with software like paint.net or Gimp, or you can use online Wordart style programs like Cooltext.com. I prefer Cooltext because it is fast and easy.
