Author Topic: Why is it that I keep getting blue screens while playing games?  (Read 1324 times)

I keep getting blue screens as soon as I start playing any game. I've got a intel i5 3400 cpu and 16 memory so power should not be a problem whatsoever. I've updated all of my drivers. None of these programs have ever been an issue before and the only two games that dont crash are Minecraft and Blockand. All of my steam games crash as well as Rigs of rods. I've completely reinstalled steam and all of the games but the problem still occurs. I've also uninstalled all of the programs I've recently installed before and after the problem began. This is now the tenth time this has happened according to MS event viewer. Please post any solutions to this issue.

Are you playing on water levels? That might be your problem.

this program lets you view the blue screens and will let you tell us what kind of error codes you get without having to actually get them and then write it down on paper like a caveman.

to me it sounds like serious hardware failure, anywhere from CPU to RAM or GPU...

How can I check?
Or if the blue screen doesn't stay for very long - I know it only flashes up for a second on some computers - when windows next boots up properly it will say something like

'Windows has recovered from a serious error
errror code: *This is the bit we need*'

go into "view" and do "windows xp style" or something similar.  look for that and click it.  then it'll show you the whole blue screen exactly as it was.

1) Download and run memtest to check the ram (http://www.memtest.org/). If ram passes with no errors then
2) Open an elevated command prompt (right-click on command prompt icon & open as administrator). Type: chkdks /r (then press ENTER). Say yes when asked if you want to run checkdisk at the next boot. Exit the command prompt and reboot. If hd passes with no errors then
3) Download and install the latest drivers for video and sound cards and check for a bios update. Get the drivers from the OEM websites, not from Windows Update.

Do drivers even affect ntfs.sys?

Do drivers even affect ntfs.sys?
not directly.  it's more like an error from hardware that cascades its way down into an error.
