Even if monitors were equally matched by price, two 22 inch monitors at 16:9 mean approx (19*11)*2 or 418 square inches.

A 44 inch monitor at 16:9 would be (38*22) or 836 square inches in size, exactly 2x the size (and therefor, twice the price by your logic).
