Aniken 911:

My parents are a bit paranoid when it comes to opening ports on our network. They're afraid that we might get hacked. Does anyone have any evidence that might put them at ease? I know that it's highly unlikely that we'll get hacked, but any input or statistics will be helpful.

Also, please keep it clean. I plan on showing them this topic.

Buu:

tell your parents to chill out, the likelyhood of being hacked is low, if not, lots of people would make topics about it

Acerblock:

Hello, parents of Anikan 911.

All port forwarding does is redirecting the connection of ports to specific network addresses.

So basically, if you port forward Blockland, you make your router connect to the master server through a port (port 28000 is the most common.).

Port forwarding does not open your Internet to hacking because it has nothing to do with your firewall or security.

Port forwarding, if done correctly, is completely safe.

you're not sending a letter, but anway, being hacked is unlikely, although you might get ddos'd

Also there is absolutely no reason for someone to hack a home computer.
The hacker doesn't gain anything, would be a waste of time

And if someone really REALLY wants to hack your computer he will find a different way.
