Author Topic: Good Gaming Computer?  (Read 821 times)

So it's not that my family is poor or anything of that nature, but I want to build my own computer and I'm on a strict budget. The catch is that I can only get the money for it by selling my tower server and getting a 100-175 dollar birthday gift from my dad and I've already ordered a power supply from my mom.

This is my most likely to buy build : (the blacked out box is a power supply I replaced later with a better one)

Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130637

Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125451

CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113286

SDRAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231550

The things I haven't included in the picture :

PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152028 (RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS 530W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply)

HDD (Reusing from my current computer) - WDC WD5000AAKS-00A7B2

Optical Drive (Reusing from my current computer) - ATAPI iHas124 B

Is this a good build for the price?

If you're on a strict budget, get 6 gb of 1333mhz ram or something.
I can guarantee that nothing will happen with 2 gb and 500mhz gone.

... why 6GB?  This isn't a triple channel motherboard.  There isn't a difference in price between 1333 and 1866 MHz, it wouldn't even matter.  Stop giving bad computer advice.

Well I haven't touched a desktop ram stick in my life so there's no wonder that 6gb 1333mhz doesn't exist.

... it does exist.  Just not for this motherboard.  Please continue reading up a lot more and have some hands-on experience before helping.

the gigabyte card you have listed in there, I almost went with it til I realized this card was cheaper and the same, it's also what I have.

they're both the same thing except the gigabyte card has a big cooler/dual fans on it. mine is overclocked from 860 to 960 mhz and it stays around 19c idle, 56c max in gaming. if you want a cooler card go with the gigabyte, if you want cheaper but still pretty cool, I'd go with the HIS

(mine also came with a free copy of far cry 3 back when I bought it)

I'd recommend a power supply that is 80+ certified.

^^^
overkill much?

>implying there is such thing as overkill

I would go Intel + Nvidia but whatever floats your boat, the specs arent bad

seems like you're overpaying for only a 530w psu.
my brother got a 650w for only like $20 from ebay
