Have you tried pressing F11 or F12 while booting yet?

F11 is boot menu which just shows the one drive. F12 does nothing.

Theres a switch? Huh, never knew. I'm used to working with old motherboards and I've never seen a switch.

Also this, the front USB(case USB) often won't work, use the onboard USB.

I've already tried all the ports. There was a screen that said press f3 to rescan for devices. Should I try moving the drive and restarting every time?

Could it be that the USB just isn't supported? Maybe I should try formatting and redoing the USB in another filesystem.

Except if he was building a budget build i would understand but that's not a super cheap build.
If your going to get what he got you might as well get a 4690k
