nope, read times increase too
it's kinda like this:
drive 1: byte 1 byte 4 byte 7
drive 2: byte 2 byte 5 byte 8
drive 3: byte 3 byte 6 byte 9
so if you wanted to read bytes 1 through 3, you can send 3 nearly simultaneous requests to read/write data instead of waiting for each drive to complete the operation first.

Most raid levels besides the basic ones are falling out of favor for software based solutions. Software based arrays allow for so much more and are usually cheaper and much easier than a hardware based solution. Like unraid, it allows you to expand you're array with mismatched size drives and if you chose to use a parity drive it just has to be the largest drive.

I'm pretty sure it's faster because it splits across pretty close to evenly across 2 drives allowing each drive to split the load of finding things. Though the gains in speed aren't really that great except for some tasks, and even then the risk of having one drive dying and losing everything on both drives is still pretty bad.

thanks bois i get it now

also, if you have a 1tb harddrive, and raid 0 that with 120 gb ssd, i think you get the storage of the ssd, and the speed of the harddrive, which i think is kinda similar in its case

I see. But what if I take the 1Tb at 5400 and combine it with my 1Tb of 7200?
I will get 2Tb's of space apperently since raid gives 2x size of smallest drive. But what about the speed?

Would it make booting faster or starting programs/loading games? But what do they mean with read speed? Not that my current boot time is bad.

Edit: So basicly what I understand.
Write speed splits in half but read speed gets doubled?
