You might be able to get a 950 or a 960, but a 970 is like trying to attach a spoiler to a school bus. You could also get an AMD. --- End quote --- If you're suggesting that I get an AMD graphics card, I've looked into that and I've heard/seen that the drivers for them doesn't preform well on Linux. If the CPU, on this site here it shows that the i3-6100 preforms better in general compared to a similar priced AMD. The only thing the AMD has better is the multi-core performance. However, as for the games I'm gonna play, I'll likely be playing Blockland, Space Engineers, Minecraft (with mods), Planet Explorers, and Kerbal Space Program. Also to add my budget is 600$ after mail in rebates. |

If you're going linux, remove the windows. --- End quote --- I'd go with that, but I still think that the processor I've chose wouldn't bottle-neck the 970, on userbenchmark there are builds showing no decrease in performance with the i3-6100. Additionally I'd want to stick to the skylake family so I could just upgrade the CPU if I needed to without having to replace the motherboard. Also I'd need a wifi card ( preferably the one in my list since it'd work out of the box with linux ), and keyboard / mouse. I'm still looking for improvement with memory or storage, or anything that can be replaced for a lower cost. |

do you guys have any laptop suggestions? I have $500 and I want something that could hold me over in school and out of the house. so a good battery life, non-stuffe touchpad, and maybe some moderate gaming. (spelunky, minecraft, EU4 even though that is a beast of a game). any help? |
