alright so i was attempting to install cinnamon on ubuntu 12.10. i typed in these commands in order in the terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cinnamon
i restarted my computer, and cinnamon is not working, it's still unity, though i have an application called "cinnamon settings" now. any help?

log out and change your environment from "Unity" or "Ubuntu" to "Cinnamon" through the unity session manager (login screen.)
