EA knows they're going to go under at some point. They're just squeezing the hen of its golden eggs until it dies. These days, the costs of making games has skyrocketed in the AAA field. They're afraid of what might happen if their games begin to flop as investors start to leave them. I don't know about you guys, but in terms of the actual games they publish, they are a business first and foremost. Once you find a key demographic or niche, you exploit the stuffe out of it. That is capitalism for you. They have investors and their luxury expense to appeal to, so with all this in mind, it kinda makes sense about their generic game exploitation. At some point in time, they'll stop being popular, just like Guitar Hero. So really, they're clinging to dear life as a new generation of gaming, tech, and business arrive. Another issue is their lack of openess, what with DRM, lack of mod support, and DLC on day one. They are either very paranoid or very greedy, maybe both. Remember the Crysis games, especially 2? They got the stuffe pirated out of em despite or because of the DRM installed. The common man got hurt in all this only, which inturn caused them to "defect" to other platforms like Steam or pirating. Steam offers good service because you can't beat piracy, so you make your offers more appealing to deter it. EA doesn't seem to realize that and continues their fruitless war on piracy, while trampling the common man. Kickstarter! As more devs get fed up with the publishing behemoths, the relevancy of the traditional publisher becomes more irrelevant. This means less control over the product and less money given to them. I don't hate EA, because I know at their rate, they will die out on their own accord. But this isn't any more different than Activision or Sonys predicament right now. Merely, this is just the sign of an end to an era of gaming. Some take it better or worse, like it always has been. We will see what happens next era. Also, im typing this from an android while in bed with a fever and cough, so I might be saying complete and utter bullstuffe and people will insult me while not actually taking the interesting parts of my opinion and researching them and forming a conclusion and discussion. I'm sorry if I got anything wrong. And I actually do mean I'm sorry. Blockland has kinda made me cynical unfortunately :/ Still, I hope I tried. These posts aren't my forte to begin with. |
