Author Topic: Do you think internet friends count as "real" friends?  (Read 6075 times)

I usually consider people to be "real friends" when i call them by their irl name

The internet is full of interesting and unique people.
Real life is filled with boring-ass tryhards attempting to follow the current social norm because they think being weird is bad.

We obviously have a clear winner here

no they don't count as real friends

there needs to be a personal connection

Yes.

I have like an amazing friend over the internet.

Why should they not be considered my friend if they're so awesome?

How are you even defining personal

The nice thing about these threads is that it shows who isn't worth befriending!

Most of my best friends are on BL :/

as in being able to chill with your friends on a summer night.  not staring at a username and not really getting to know someone personally.  the internet grants anonymity that you really can't have in a good friendship.

I know long-distance friends better than a lot I know in person. :/
People are far more open, online.

Dang you're cool. :(

All my real life friends are very wealthy and constantly travel a lot. Internet friends are literally the only ones i can talk to a lot of the time.

you're getting so defensive because what I am saying directly threatens the validity of what I assume is the majority of most of your friendships.  I'm not trying to insult anyone here, I'm just giving my opinion.

The way I see it, I could never become friends with someone over the internet in the same way that I have become friends with my closest friends; kids I have known since I was 5, who I've been in classes with and who I hang out with each and every weekend.
