Trying to root my kindle fire, but I'm running into a problem.

I've downloaded Kindle fire utility and ran install_drivers, but the computer cannot recognize the kindle fire when I plug it in, even though it charges.

Any help? Should I try a different method?

Kindle fire is version 6.3.2, if that helps.

Try this:

1. Plug in cable to the computer but don't connect to Fire just yet
2. Unlock the Fire
3. Connect the cable to the fire

It's what my dad has to do to get his recognized on his computer

Did you enable USB Debugging?

Try this :

Root a Kindle Fire (1st Generation) and install Jelly Bean 4.1.2
By following this guide, I am assuming no responsibility for what happens to your tablet or computer. Do it right and nothing bad should happen.

0.1 : Connect your kindle to your PC via USB and enable mass storage

1 : go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
and download the tool

2: Install all the drivers that come in the Driver folder of your download

3: Open the program and make sure the boot status is 4000 (if not, redownload the drivers)

4: Type in the number to install permanent superuser and root

5: Once done, type in the number to install the FireFireFire bootloader and hit enter

6: once done, type in the number to install TWRP and hit enter

7: Once done, boot up your kindle (you will notice the new bootloader with the blue kindle logo) and enable USB Mass Storage while connecting it to your PC.

8: Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041694 and download the zip

9: Put the zip on your kindle

10: reboot, when the blue kindle logo comes up, hold down your power button till you get

--Fast Boot--
--Recovery--
--Normal Boot--
or something like that. Press the power button a few times till recovery is selected, and wait for it too boot into recovery.

11: When in TWRP, wipe your cache, dalvik cache and data

12: Then Install and choose the zip you downloaded.

13: Swipe to flash.

14: Reboot and, there you go.

17 : Remove /system/recovery-from-boot.p using a root browser you can get on google play.

18 : Reinstall CWM and it will be permanent.
