What is rooting compared to jailbreaking?Essentially the same thing, with a few differences, here's one: The ability to install a recovery mod, but I'll get to the recovery mod later in this section.
EDIT : Jailbreaking allows you to download apps out of the App Store and in Android you can download apps out of Google play by default.
Nandroid is ClockWorkMod (CWM's) backup and restore tool. You can create a backup of your software which works with CWM so that later if your software doesn't work but you can get into recovery via a bootloader, etc, then you can restore the backup.
REMEMBER! To replace a recovery with your stock recovery and prevent the system from overwriting your new recovery you install, you MUST delete
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
which will require root.

2 : enable USB mass storage on your breakout and transfer BreakoutRoot.zip to a folder in your SDCard. Transfer BrokenOut2.0.zip to a folder on your SDCard.
3 : Extract Recovery All In One zip to your desktop
4 : Open the Driver folder and install the motorola driver.
5 : Disconnect your phone from your PC, and turn it off.
6 : once off, hold the Power and Back button and don't let go until you get a screen that says ANDROID DEVELOPMENT MODE!!! FASTBOOT!!!
7 : Open RecoveryAIO.bat and hit "1"
8 : Wait till it is done installing the recovery.
9 : turn off your phone and hold Power + Search and don't let go until you get into the CWM screen.
10 : Clear your cache.
11 : Install Zip from sdcard and choose the BreakoutRoot.zip, wherever it is.
12 : Confirm to flash.
13 : Once done, go back and install another zip from the sdcard.
14 : Choose the Broken Out 2.0 ROM zip
15 : Confirm to flash.
16 : Reboot your phone and you are now rooted with an ICS Styled ROM.
17 : Remove /system/recovery-from-boot.p using a root browser you can get on google play.
18 : Reinstall CWM and it will be permanent.
