Also, for a first project. I suggest using all default stuff, just make some decent terrain and place some bots out in the map. Make it so you spawn with some guns and stuff. And try to make a basic main menu. Just keep things simple until you know the engine, otherwise you'll have modelers like myself join in on this thing and get annoyed with lack of progress because the developers aren't moving at a decent pace.

Remember that relying on a team in the gaming industry is a horrible idea, unless of course you have them under employment/contract ;)

I didn't mean to sound like a total richard in my first post, but you do need to gain a knowledge of the engine and make sure the engine is designed for what you want to do before you start doing anything.

This includes deciding what game type you want, how it should be implemented, etc.

Well, I'll go ahead and drop this in here:

I've had some experience with Cry Engine 3 (Such as making terrain and getting a prop into the game), this Engine is definitely a good engine, but not so great for beginners. Try something really basic like NeoAxis first. NeoAxis provides entity types and is relatively easy to pick up on. And the graphics aren't too shabby either. If you're going to use Cry Engine 3 as your first game engine, then make something basic with default textures and models. Of course don't attempt to make a game at first. Make small levels that have terrain and stuff. But make objectives (such as activate a button by pressing E and looking at it). After that I suggest working on (what I call "zones"). (What I mean by this is... Coming into an area will spawn AI's or coming into an area will start to play a cinematic / voice recording / music / sounds). Then after that, make some basic items and weapons in Blender or MS3D and attempt to get them into the engine. After you get that, start working on getting vehicles into the engine. That's just the easy part, now you need to make characters and animations and of course, a character can't function without a skeleton (or bones). While your at this, try working on texturing your models and improving them. Once you get all that out of the way, you can basically make a decent game for beginners.

Also here's what types of games I suggest making with this engine:

FPS

MMO (eehh, possibly)

Racing (Especially with Soft Body physics)

Just remember, this is a really advance engine your toying with. Don't be upset if you don't get it at first. Also don't be deceived by graphics. Always check these things:

Compatibility (Making sure your game can run on lots of PC's)

Game play

Good story line

Good models

-

If anything, graphics comes after  those. People may say "Graphics make the game", they sure as hell don't. Also it's good to check other game engines, Cry engine might be something you look for in the future.
