but possible

Awdax:

The only use I ever saw for these was they removed the white lines in dark builds. But now that has been fixed since v21, with the lines still there since they are used for specular hilighting.

Yeah, but it doesn't seem to matter at all.
I've found zero problems with this method, and my game has never looked better.

"has been fixed"... yeah okay. The default Blockland textures still look terrible on darker colours.

Looks great on the white. Not the brown.
Not so terrible, but there are white lines on the shadowed black bricks!
White lines galore

You might not see it, but that's probably just because you're so used to it.
When you've had darker textures for some time, the default ones start to look bad. Really bad. I will never go back to default textures.

You need to place the texture files in base/data/shapes, overwrite the old ones, and set them to read-only.

You know you can get banned for that right?
Badspot doesn't want people setting stuff to read only because sometimes it breaks the game, and then he gets false alarms in the help board.

However I don't have my reporting privileges anymore, either way I'm not sure that is a rule so I don't know, it could be one of those hidden ones like the "No Edgar Allen Poe" one.

Zeblote:

I don't see any problem with making textures read-only. It's not like they could break anything.
But if your textures look all messed up after an update you know what causes it.
