Why are Civil war games so widely ignored by game makers?

fred da kiko:

The subject works better for an RTS due to the boring fighting that would take place.

I dunno, a mount and blade type of thing would work pretty well.

Ben Grapevine:

Anyways, I just want to mix like Guns (not automatic but you know civil war type guns) and swords together.

With Fire and Sword was dead boring.

But, With Fire and Sword is based off of a book, of the same name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/With_Fire_and_Sword

I would have liked Napoleonic Wars if it had a regular Single-Player Mount & Blade gamemode to it.
The gun and cannon mechanics are pretty interesting (if very slow [Which is expected] for a game), and would make for some interesting battles.

If they can fit some ship-to-ship battles in Mount & Blade: Bannerlords, I would love it.
I actually really really enjoyed the naval battles aboard the Aquila in Assassin's Creed III. I would play a whole game with that style of gameplay. Sadly, the only games I know of like it are AC3, and BountyBayOnline/VoyageCenturyOnline.
