Why are Civil war games so widely ignored by game makers?

There's a reason that the games you'd want to play are resigned to the budget of hobbyist games like farming simulator or train sims, only like 6 people would buy the game after it gets a 0.5 metascore.

Call of Duty: Trenches of World War 1

Sitting in two ditches for hours on end in a constant grindfest of chemically bombing the stuff out of eachother. Everyone dies. Uses a last generation engine.
