If it consistently progressed linearly, or vaguely linearly then equipment would not be outclassed so quickly. In Alpha and Beta I could continue using the stuff weapons I picked up ages ago for the simple reason of if the scaling is multiplicative then 12*3 would be very different from 1200*3. Admittedly once you hit X sector and start going to T10 planets and asteroid fields there isn't this problem because everything is capped now, except with the melee weapons, most of the generated ones being garbage compared to what you can craft. |
