If BL wasn't pay-to-play any longer, roughly how many players would we have?

I'd say definitely over 100k.
We get lots of publicity but people don't like the fact that you gotta pay in order to play.

Agreed. BL is really nice mainly because of it's medium-sized community. It's not too big; nor too small. It's perfect as is.
