Author Topic: The Forgettable Dungeon: Early Access Release  (Read 346497 times)

I just watched Bobbygordon4 and two others get escorted to the boss room by Cowboy Dude
Your welcome :^)

We died right after though...

Alright testing is over, and went pretty well overall. Some bugs and things to change but nothing exploded on my end this time.

Edit: also I think we broke the gg master server by hosting 3 servers, hurray!

that was fun but a lot of people kept dieing lol
I feel like that you take too much damage at first, but that could be me being bad at the game lol
Thanks for the test Rotondo, was fun all-round

Testing was super fun!

bugs:
The arrow traps don't have names, so it says "was killed by !"
I don't think I could choose my custom characters ingame, only when joining a server

there was a "Customize" button on the bottom left, yeah I didn't see it at first also, it blends in with the backround

Edit: read what you wrote wrong maybe

That was awesome. Suggestions: perhaps make skeletons a little less strong. The dark knights are entirely manageable with the right techniques.
There were some slight camera issues going into certain rooms. They didn't make anything impossible, just slightly aggravating.
I really loved how this went so far, but it is regrettably short-lived. I know that won't be how it works later, though, so that's fine.
Skelton is an excellent boss. Really fun to fight, no complaints there!
Perhaps make chickens invincible even to falling damage.
You could add areas where there is stuff that can only be accessed by throwing another player over a short wall or using a chicken. So far there are spots only accessible by chicken, which is great, but they don't allow for players to throw other players onto them unless you're really ballsy.

Also, seeing as some of the walls appeared to have 3D surfaces, I'd like to know how customizing textures might work.

I can't miss the testing next time
I'm gonna be stalking this thread like a hawk

Yeah, I could choose the presets, but not my custom characters.
Did you add them to the Add-Ons/characters folder?

Character Editor:

_Depth files seem to work on character skins, but I'm not sure about in-game.

I'm genuinely looking forward to this game coming out. That was great fun, the dungeons were simpler from last time which is good. The skeleton boss fight was real fun and I like little touches like how you can kill the shopkeepers and steal the store items.

Oddly enough I didn't add my character from last time, but he was still there.

That killed by ! bug feels oddly nostalgic to me, since it used to appear frequently in alpha blockland and it's mods. But yeah, I need to fix that, though honestly I need to redo the whole chat hud right now it's just temporary.

I wrote down the custom character bug, but that's not too high priority since Boston FIG is this weekend.

Thanks for all the feedback, difficulty needs to be reworked all around I think. You're extremely killable right at the start and then you turn super strong quickly.

Was the camera jerky or was it mainly visibility issues?

Good on you for looking out for the chickens, will definitely fix that.

Edit: Each dungeon has their own dungeon skin, but they also have a wall detail object that is placed in front. The wall detail is just a normal sprite basically which is in the dungeon dir with the other textures.

Yeah I think I accidentally included him in the download, right now it saves all downloaded characters to your own character folder. Definitely have to change that in the long run.

Really thanks everyone for helping me to test, found out a lot that I wouldn't have been able to figure out myself.

Added ability to spawn text like this, each letter is a breakable object just like the pots or anything else in the world.

I feel like this is going to be lead to a very fun credits sequence eventually.

Edit2: Did anyone have any problems with the dungeon room size? Did they feel too small at times or hard to move?
« Last Edit: September 08, 2015, 04:40:32 PM by Rotondo »

The rooms are a decent size, but a tad small at times In my opinion
everything felt cluttered in a room some times
It could be me getting used to it, but that's how I feel
Also have you been thinking about Magic Tomes? or any kind of magic items. You can either summon the magic from the tome(as an item) or use it to learn a skill/item
I dunno if you've put any in, but think about it
Maybe some tomes can get you into secret rooms depending on the spell? Like fire can light specific torches and ice/water can extinguish open flames?
just putting that there if you didn't see it already sorry
