are we literally discussing the literal meaning of literally right now?

Woah, they are so lucky.

Glad to hear they're ok though.

Name a situation in which the usage of literally is relevant and warranted. Outside of what I stated above.
the arabian sea is literally a body of water

daedalus needs to stop taking things so literally

are we literally discussing the literal meaning of literally right now?
Well no, we're discussing when it should be used. No one's been responding to the OP pretty consistently - I'd imagine because the OP provided a good summary of what happened.
the arabian sea is literally a body of water
Sure, that's grammatically correct, but it's improper usage. When would you ever have to specify that? No one would ever think that the Arabian Sea is figuratively a body of water.
daedalus needs to stop taking things so literally
I'm actually telling everyone else that the literal meaning of literally is not its proper usage :cookieMonster:
so quite the opposite, dear spreads

the use of literally is not restricted to use in a sentence where it can be figurative

i literally agree with you
Again, how would it be possible for you to figuratively agree? Unless you're making a joke, in which case I'm so mentally broken from homework right now.

the use of literally is not restricted to use in a sentence where it can be figurative

this whole thing is too figuratively literal for me.

If you don't want to sound stupid, it is.
this whole thing is too figuratively literal for me.
oh stuff you're way too meta for me right now

daedalus is literally a huge pooplord who is wrong in every way

now is that a literal pooplord or a figurative pooplord? can you cite sources?

daedalus is literally a huge pooplord who is wrong in every way
no </3
like REALLY think about this
the word literally contrasts against figuratively. by adding the word into a description, you are IMPLYING that the word was worth mentioning.
if it has no meaning, you sound dumb.
that's like me saying "oh hey look at that existent bus over there"
"well no stuff daedalus, did you think it was going to be nonexistent?"

existent is a bit extreme don't you think

op just said he literally met and talked to this guy before, which is a perfectly good use of literally

existent is a bit extreme don't you think

op just said he literally met and talked to this guy before, which is a perfectly good use of literally

is the use technically valid? sure. does it sound dumb? absolutely (no offense OP, just saying)
and no, it's not extreme at all. the word existent is extraneous and stupid because who the forget is going to assume otherwise?
by even mentioning the word you imply it's an adverb that's important
