Author Topic: Is this still Pirating?  (Read 1189 times)

A while ago I bought a legitimate copy of EA's Medal of Honor 10th Anniversary Pack, of which I lost the install disc for Medal of Honor: Airborne.

I really liked the game and am pretty upset that I can't find the disc, but since I already paid for the license and have the Authentication Key on the back of the manual to prove it, would it still be legal to obtain an illegitimate copy of the install and use my real license? EA is being a richard and I can't even get it through Origin.

In a court, yes, but most people probably wouldn't view it as such.

Yeah, I would like to know also.

From a legal standpoint, it is pirating. From my point of view, it is not.

I am still trying to do this through EA so I don't have to obtain it with my local Starbucks Wifi, but it is starting to appear as if EA no longer uses the same Auth System.

I still really don't want to have Origin on my compy, Nor do I want a Subpoena in my mailbox either though.

Edit: According to the EA FAQ, my key should work, but it doesn't. I hope Customer Support can help me here.

So I decided to do a live chat, but then,

"Thank you for contacting EA
Please wait while we connect you to the next available advisor.
Your approximate wait time is between 55 - 60 minutes."

It's not pirating if you have the authentication key.

You just need to get game files.

I would like to know if it is illegal if I download Borderlands 1 for PC if I own it legally for the PS3. :c

Yeah, Tee, it would be.

It is.

Yeah, Tee, it would be.
But he actually owns it. It's not like he's giving it to someone else. Just a different platform.

Well since they can't be bothered to provide email support like the rest of industrialized america it looks like this chat or the stuffty EA Help Forum is my only option, the latter probably being the worst idea I have ever heard of.

Copyright laws are pretty warped nowadays, you can't be 100% sure.

I'm sure there's some technical reason that qualifies it as such. Logically, no, that should be perfectly fine (IMO if you own something on one platform you should automatically own it on all others) but there's always EA and capitalism and bullstuff

In *strict* legal terms, even if you 100% legitly bought and can prove ownership of a copy of the game and pirate it for a lost CD that they refuse to replace, it's still pirating.

However, a jury probably wouldn't see it that way.

I know, it's a stupid law. But it's still the law.
