How can I make my builds not look really boring and dull?
Here's an example of one of my dumb looking builds, ignore the weird roof looking thing at the top:

Try adding something like a statue or a window washing platform.

It's supposed to be a scientisty tower that holds chemicals in it

Hazardous Waste barrels on the ground maybe

Study how other people build.
Base your builds off of pictures.
Find layouts online making it easier to come up with an interior layout.
Look at http://www.brickshelf.com/ and build off those
