Author Topic: Can Blockland (dedicated) even start up on my computer?  (Read 2322 times)

I know it worked with those specs on previous versions. Does the dedi server work?
Not even the server works.

The server gets through the launcher and then crashes? BC the most recent log you posted shows the launcher working properly but it's not starting a dedi.

Yes, it gets through the launcher via the one available in the portable app download (r1361), but once it starts the dedicated, it crashes. No console.log is ever made.

Does windows give a low memory warning or anything?  Also, make sure your XP is upgraded to SP3, it might help.

No memory warnings.
I'm installing SP3 as we speak, just realized I forgot to do that.

Still crashing when the game attempts to start.

I'm assuming that the Blockland Launcher is using instructions that an AMD Athlon can't handle, or that Blockland is no longer able to run at a low clock rate.

If it was a RAM problem, then the low memory warning would come up.

So it's probably just v21's fault?
Is there not a way to disable whatever's causing it? Or is that not possible without a special build of BL?

I mean I don't need any of the graphics, just the server hosting capabilites.

I wonder if it would work without the launcher. I know BL used to run fine at 700Mhz.

You can not change a CPU's instruction set.

You need to run Blockland on a modern computer.

It would work without the launcher. The launcher isn't resource-intensive so I am assuming that the Blockland Launcher wants to do some weird operation using the SSE instruction set (which old-generation Athlon processors don't support).

I remember there was some argument you could use to bypass the launcher, I just forget what it is. :/

Someone mentioned what it was, and even with it, it's still crashing.

So you managed to bypass the launcher and you started the game directly via Blockland.exe, but it's still crashing?

Yes.
