The people that say if you're not doing anything wrong you shouldn't care are loving idiots. "Let's give up all privacy since I'm not doing anything wrong!"
You're not giving up all privacy. And the only reason to care about privacy from the government or big corporations is if you think they are going to misuse the information they have about you. Some people hold the belief that they won't use information against us, and the data they collect will only be used to catch criminals or just help people out.

This is not a stupid belief. It is idealistic and not always relevant, but not stupid.

Sure, if your talking about the government. Google is a private entity, and I gave them that info so I should have to deal my decisions.

But we have the Patriot act so you don't really have any rights or security in the US anyways.

It is a pretty stupid belief. It does so much more harm than good.

And what, harm, per se, has google done to you or people that you know?
That's right, none.
Believe it or not, the higher ups of a 200 billion dollar business have more important things on their minds than your recent googling activities.

What things would those be? What exactly do all the secretive Google employees do? Do you actually know?

Bending over backwards giving governments any information they ask for without requiring a subpoena isn't really something I think is commendable. I don't really care for companies having tons of data about everything I do on the internet either , but I guess that's just me.

I use several of Google's services all the time (including Chrome and Android), and I don't mind that they gather information at all. I'd much rather see an advertisement for some cloud coding service than an advertisement for cheap bras from some Indonesian store.

You pretty much gave up your "private information" when you agreed to the legal contracts when you signed up for their services

Most, if not all information they store goes towards advertising. Google isn't out to take over the world, it's out to make money and provide service.

Beer pong.

This, if you really don't want them having your info then don't use their services.

If I think "Chrome" and "Android" I don't even see how you'd get advertisements based on the services themselves in the first place.

If you're making enough money it literally means you're taking over the world.

Beer pong.
What am I supposed to make of this? Am I to assume that your arguments are based on vague beliefs rather than facts?

I honestly doubt that Google is anywhere close to having the world by the balls.

I try my best to avoid Google services. This is better than Google

It was an example.

It was an example.
Well help me understand what you meant, then. I don't even get what the example was, the services or the advertisements
